What is metadata?

Metadata is data that can be added to a contact or respondent, such as date of birth, affiliation site, telephone number or any other data that would be useful to you in understanding their responses.

This metadata is retrieved when you import contacts to complete a survey.

A piece of metadata has :

  • a label : surname, first name, date of birth, etc. ;
  • a data type : email, text, date, list, ... ;
  • a link: contact or respondent
  • a DCP (Personal Data Protection) property: yes or no.

There are two groups of metadata in Journey :

  • Standards 👉 This metadata is available by default in Journey. They can be used on all surveys. Examples: Email, Last name, First name, Date of birth, ....
  • Custom metadata 👉 These are metadata that you can define (see “How to create a custom metadata”). They are limited to 10 and are available for all surveys and users within the same company.

The available data types are:

  • email;

  • text;

  • language (standard metadata only);

  • date;

  • gender;

  • phone (standard metadata only);

  • list.
