What do I do if I don't have a contact ID?
When importing contacts into Journey, it is mandatory to provide a unique identifier. However, if your CRM or database does not have a specific contact/customer ID, you can use an alternative field to uniquely identify each customer, such as the e-mail address.
As the e-mail address of your contacts is also mandatory when importing, make sure you include the e-mail in both the Contact ID column and the E-mail column.
Make sure that each e-mail is unique in your database. Avoid using temporary or generic e-mail addresses which could cause duplication or customer tracking problems.
Example of procedure:
- Before importing, check that your file contains a column for the Contact ID where the e-mail is inserted as a value.
- Make sure that the same information is also available in a separate column for the email.
💡By following these steps, you can therefore manage contact identification even when you don't have a unique identifier.
